ARTWORK
I love the story behind this photo, it was quite a humbling moment to say the least haha.
I was standing on the marlin board at the back of the boat, waiting to jump in with a whale shark. I was getting my knickers in a twist by pondering at how annoyed I was about being thrown around by the waves, how bad my mask tan was getting standing in the sweltering sun, how sore my legs were, and in that moment, just how stupid all of this swimming was. Safe to say I got brought back down to Earth as soon as we got told to jump in the crystal blue water. I swam over to this big fish and was greeted with the most pristine, bright spot pattern I had ever seen. It took my mind straight off all those petty thoughts and I just remember staring at this shark and thinking “woah, these patterns look like beautiful Aboriginal artwork… how lucky are we to be so connected to this land…”
I had a laugh with Lindsay when we got back on the boat and told her about my ridiculous mind flip that happened in the space of 3 minutes. We magically swam with this exact same whale shark around a month later in a completely different area.
Very humbled and very grateful.
